Election Day 2020 was fast approaching, and Alexander Kolodin wanted a spot inside the Arizona Republican Party’s war room.
Kolodin, an attorney who had lost a GOP primary for the state Senate that summer, was seen as something of a gadfly by some in the state GOP and hardly seen at all by others. But the Republicans running the show allowed him into an auxiliary war room on another floor of the hotel, distanced from the real action, one party leader recalled. People there “could say they were in the war room,” he said. “If we needed something, then we’d call.”
