Historic voter turnout powered Democrats’ blue wave

Turnout in the midterm elections reached its second-highest peak in more than a century — only slightly behind the 2018 midterms, during President Donald Trump’s first term — with the greatest number of voters casting ballots in states where Democrats won unexpected victories.
