I noted with interest Dr Jemma King’s advice to aid sleeping by making a to-do list before going to bed (13 surprising reasons you’re always dog tired – and what to do about it, 24 July). One of the examples given was: “Call Sammy’s teachers at 10.30am”. As a teacher of 34 years of broken sleep, I am going to take Dr King’s advice by creating my own list. Item 1: ignore Sammy’s parent’s phone call at 10.30am as I will be too busy teaching. If it’s important, they will leave a message. I feel better already.

“Some say the world will end in fire, / Some say in ice”. Well, that’s that argument settled, anyway (More than 200,000 people flee or lock down as wildfires sweep France and Spain, 24 July).

Hannah Kaitlin-Boyer reckons everyone knows what she means by supper (Letters, 24 July). She’d be very welcome to have supper at our house, but she might become a little peckish: “supper” is a substantial meal taken just before bedtime. Sometimes the chipper is fired up, so it’s worth waiting.

A jumpsuit? For travelling? I can’t get the image of trying to negotiate a train loo out of my mind (School’s out for summer: what to wear when travelling, 24 July).
