Petrol prices have reached a record high for Labor Day weekend, with the national average climbing to $4.15 (£3.07) per gallon.

Prices have never topped $4 (£2.96) on Labor Day, the American Automobile Association (AAA) noted.

The national average for regular gas prices is still below the record of $5.02 (£3.71) a gallon set in June 2022.

At the same time, diesel hit a national average of $5.85 (£4.33) a gallon on Friday, a record, then was 5 cents higher on Monday, AAA reported.
