In the mid-1960s I went to Saturday classes at Hornsey School of Art that they ran for kids from neighbouring schools. One of the teachers was Bob Davenport (Obituary, 7 October), whom I recognised from his gigs at our local folk club. I took to singing loudly in the corridors, hoping he’d hear me and think: “Wow, that girl’s got a good voice – I must introduce her to my agent.” But he didn’t. Still, I remember Bob very fondly.

The story of Bob Davenport’s family turning up the radio so that the Irish family upstairs could dance to the music for Ceilidh Hour gladdened my heart. Hospitality comes in many forms.
