The two eloquent letters on the super-rich (The problem with living in a rich man’s world, 14 October) explain perfectly why I, as a longstanding Green party member, could not agree less with the letter writers who claim that the party has lost its way (Has Zack Polanski forgotten what the Green party is for?, 14 October).

Social justice has always been at the heart of the Greens’ policy, which also means that unless we have a change in our dysfunctional economic system, we cannot achieve the green agenda. The Green movement has always been about having a moral framework, standing up for oppressed people and bringing about a more just society both at home and abroad.

People tend to know about the green agenda; it is the other messages that need clearer communication, which is where recent campaigns have focused, leading to a surge in membership.

The complaint about the Green party used to be that it was a single-issue pressure group. In response, it diversified into general politics, and now the complaint is that it talks about things other than climate change. You just can’t win.
