President Donald Trump won in 2024 after promising to bring down the cost of living. Nearly two years later, has he delivered?

Since Trump started his second term, prices have gone up in 5 of 8 areas he pledged to cut. Inflation spiked earlier this year as the Iran war drove up prices for gas and other essentials.
Asked about the president’s record, White House spokesman Kush Desai said in a statement that “President Trump pledged to put an end to Joe Biden’s inflation crisis.”
“As the Trump administration’s economic policies continue taking effect, Americans can count on more relief to come — declining prices of prescription drugs, eggs, and other household essentials are proof that the President’s agenda is delivering,” he said.
Even though price hikes have eased a bit this summer, however, wage gains have been erased by inflation, and Americans are feeling increasingly weary of rising costs.
