I recently visited Ontario, New York, a tiny town named after Lake Ontario, which runs along on its northern edge. I wanted to know how people in a community that overwhelmingly voted for President Donald Trump felt about him renaming the body of water to Lake America.
I wrote about the mixed reactions, including from some Trump supporters who enthusiastically embraced the lake’s new name. But Lake Ontario’s most ardent defenders were the ones most eager to go on camera and explain why they have a problem with Lake America. Here’s what they had to say:
