Why we love it: Award-winning wine cellar, full-service spa, pet- and family-friendly, elevated dining

European elegance meets Rocky Mountain grandeur at the Post Hotel & Spa in Lake Louise, where culinary excellence and an award-winning wine cellar housing more than 27,000 bottles have earned the property sparkling accolades, including a Michelin One Key and a Wine Spectator Grand Award. Originally constructed in 1942 and completely transformed under the direction of Swiss-born hoteliers, culinary excellence is at the heart of the Post experience. It has four restaurants that offer a range of experiences from après-ski to fine dining, with each dish artfully plated. Be sure to ask the sommelier team for a tour of the impressive cellar, and they’ll happily oblige. A Relais & Châteaux member, the property has nearly 100 guest rooms and suites, including riverside accommodations and standalone luxury cabins with plenty of space for the whole family. That includes four-legged members: Dogs are greeted with plush beds, bowls, house-made treats, and a welcome gift, and a portion of pet fees are donated to the local SPCA. Guests can preorder a gourmet packed lunch and hop on the private shuttle to explore Lake Louise, or hit the slopes at Lake Louise Ski Resort, which is just five minutes away. Skip the big buses and complex reservation systems, and snag a spot on Post Hotel’s shuttle service to Moraine Lake reserved exclusively for guests; car seats are even offered, a convenient touch when traveling with two little ones as our family does. Luxurious facials, therapeutic massages, a whirlpool, and a hydrotherapy circuit await inside the Temple Mountain Spa (I felt myself nodding off at least a couple of times during a deeply relaxing, blissful body wrap), while the Roman-inspired saltwater pool and hot tubs are top-notch spots to soak after a day of fun in the mountains.
